What we do
Orterra is an online market for Italian food made by small farms and artisans. We choose who may sell here, we check that the businesses exist and are active, and we ask each one to declare how much they harvested — because on Orterra you cannot sell more than that. How we do it is written in how we order the products.
What we do not do, and this is the part that matters
Orterra does not sell. When you buy, the contract is with the producer: their name is on the product page, in the cart and on the invoice, and it is they who pack and ship. We keep the site running, collect the payment on their behalf and transfer to them what is theirs.
This changes practical things: the right of withdrawal is exercised towards the producer, and in an order with three producers there are three parcels, three shipments and three contracts. It is explained in the terms of sale.
How we make money
From a commission on sales, paid by the producer. We do not sell advertising space and we do not charge a producer to appear higher up: the order in which you find the products is not for sale.
